Crab Spider - Mecaphesa - female

Crab Spider - Mecaphesa - Female

Could this be Misumena vatia - Goldenrod Crab Spider, or Misumenoides formosipes - Whitebanded Crab Spider? I'm having a hard time telling these two species apart, even with the excellent descriptions on the info pages.

Crab Spider - Mecaphesa - female Crab Spider - Mecaphesa - female

We've been working on Thomisidae recently
In the Great Lakes region we only have Mecaphesa asperatus and M. celer. So far, this doesn't look like either of those :(
That leaves two possibilities. Either Misumena vatia as you first suggested, or the female of Misumessus oblongus. We haven't seen an image of the second yet, so we don't know what that looks like, unfortunately. We'll keep trying to figure these out.

I've been looking
For a picture of a female Misumessus oblongus, and haven't been able to find one yet. I sure appreciate all of your efforts. I'll keep looking :)

Moved
Moved from Crab Spiders.

Not Misumenoides,
but likely Mecaphesa, instead - different anterior eye size and lateral eyes on tubercles.

Mecaphesa
Thanks! I didn't even notice the hairs on the cephalothorax until I read your comment. She must be Mecaphesa - probably one of the "unknown" species. :)
