Ground Spider - Callilepis pluto

Ground Spider - Callilepis pluto
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
April 17, 2006
Size: 4.5mm

Moved
Moved from Callilepis.

The eye arrangement of Callilepis includes posterior laterals that are larger than the posterior medians... and the posterior medians are flat and transverse. I see that in this image (you have to zoom in kinda to see it, though). I think the white hairs on the abdomen of this one are pretty worn off... and it kind of looks like a juvenile (when comparing it to adults I've seen). If this is indeed Callilepis, then the only species that has a known range into MA is C. pluto, so I am going to go ahead and move this one there.

Identified to genus by Gerry Wegner.

What features did he use to identify this spider to Callilepis? I don't see what distinguishing feature are visible in the photo.

Thanks!

I didn't use any features myself
I was contacted by Gerry Wegner about using this and a few other spider pictures in a spider identification guide. He identified it, and I figured with his credentials and using it in a book, he must know what he's talking about. This is all the info I have about him.
