Parcoblatta - Parcoblatta pennsylvanica - male

Parcoblatta - Parcoblatta pennsylvanica - Male
Briceville, Anderson County, Tennessee, USA
Size: About one inch
Sent to me by a friend. Out of about 5 nymphs, one has matured as an adult male. An immature female nymph is next to the male. Most likely P. penn*sylvanica.

I agree, the creamy border of the pronotum on the large, dark roach, and the ridges on both the median segment and the first abdominal segment are characteristics of P. pennsylvanica. I'm impressed with your deftness holding the specimen in the perfect position while taking the picture- you clearly know cockroaches! If you have images of the nymphs, you can add them to this species page to provide additional demonstrations of those impossible to identify brown roaches. If we eventually obtain enough images of nymphs reared to adulthood, someone may see patterns that will help us to differentiate the species as nymphs. I suspect that taxonomic identification of immature insects will be one of BugGuide's great contributions to entomology.

Moved from ID Request.

At first I tried holding him
At first I tried holding him right out of the container but he didn't want to cooperate. I simply put him in the fridge for about 20 minutes and spread his wings when I took him out. 10 minutes later he was back to normal. :)
I will try to get some pictures of the female nymphs tonight. At the subadult instar you can see some of the pronotum pattern.
