Assassin - Arilus cristatus

Assassin - Arilus cristatus
Westerville, Inniswood Metro Gardens, Ohio, USA
June 1, 2010
I know this is an Assassin bug. I do not know what species. Also, I would like to know what are the small flies feeding off of the prey, and what is the prey? Too many questions sorry. This was on an Echinacea flower, and the bug did not move at all. Thank you for any help.

Thank you Kevin

Stunning composition!
I realize you couldn't have planned it, but that is just a stunning composition in terms of the lines, placement and color. Wow!

Stunning Composition
Thank you Sara for your wonderful compliment. This is a crop of the original photo. I do dabble a little in photography, and I think that I do quite well with the equipment that I own. Also, in Photoshop I can enhance details which are lacking in the actual photo. Not over-edited, just enhanced. Thanks again, Andi.

Assassin
looks like a Wheel Bug (Arilus cristatus):

The prey is another true bug of some kind (not exactly sure what, though). There are opportunistic flies of this sort in a couple of families. Others may be able to tell you more.

The prey
Maybe...Four-lined Plant Bug? or Lygus or like that, I think.

Thank you
That looks exactly like it.

Wheel Bug
Thank you, it's a nymph :D
