Mystery bee on Rabbitbrush - Epeolus compactus

Mystery bee on Rabbitbrush - Epeolus compactus
Mojave National Preserve, San Bernardino County, California, USA
October 9, 2010
Size: Body length~6.5-7 mm
This striking bee with red on femora at least was sipping nectar on a tall large isolated Rabbitbrush on the Cima Dome near Cima. The wing venation seems similar to Centris. I have two other images to post. Any help is much appreciated.
