I went back out today and gathered a couple of these guys. Hopefully they will do their thing and we can see exactly what they are. Boy do I feel dumb! I had no idea or didn't think about it, that they go to the bathroom! Within and hour these eating machines have dropped a lot of frass.

I had to come south for a week to watch granddaughter. The day before I left, one of them just totally disappeared. I have (had) 3 in a 20 gal. aquarium. Some gravel on one side, some potting soil on the other. Yesterday in conversation on phone, husband says other 2 are gone. There is netting securely on top so nothing can get in or out. I'm thinking they went under the dirt or gravel to pupate?? He says there is a curled leaf on one of the branches. Can't wait to get home to check things out.

the Salt Marsh, Estigmene acrea. Your image is almost identical to the image and description in Wagner, page 464. Let's see what others with that book say.
