crane fly - Chionea valga - male

crane fly - Chionea valga - Male
Dummer, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
January 26, 2011
Size: 4.3mm
This guy was actively walking on the snow when it was overcast and 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I found this about 50 feet from this other one. It's a little larger, and the hind femur is a lot thicker. Are they the same species?
