try freemani, too -- although discoideus is a good call, too
can't tell from the pic. -- not enough resolution

I ran it through the Parsons key again...
I end up with dimidiatus. Fits the description very well and also matches the images linked to on the info page. Plus these were collected on the edge of a cornfield, so... :)

caveat
Parsons treated mutilatus as synonymous; now both are considered spp. in good standing, and i don't know the formal characters... ah! for what it's worth, summarizing the relevant key couplets from(1) [if i interpret the Russian correctly!]:
...
Antennomere 2 much shorter than 3. Hypomeron coarsely and densely punctate all over, with surface between punctures smooth and shiny. => dimidiatus
Antennomeres 2 & 3 subequal. Hypomeron impunctate but coarsely granulate, w/surface microreticulate between granules => mutilatus + several other spp.

well
Under closer inspection, the hypomeron is granulate. I don't see a swelling on the hind femora that would indicate C. fumatus. The elytral punctures appear longitudinally divided, so I suspect C. freemani.

nice to see my intuinitial guess vindicated...
...although i would definitely choose a new sp for the guide anytime ))

great
