Crawling Water Beetle - Peltodytes muticus

Crawling Water Beetle - Peltodytes muticus
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
April 21, 2006
Size: 4 mm
I've read here that Peltodytes can be identified by dorsal markings. However, White mentions: "hind coxal plates are bordered by a groove and reach base of last abdominal segment". This key feature in differentiating Peltodytes from the commonly found Haliplus is illustrated in "Peterson's Field Guide to Beetles" (1), p. 95.

This little fella did not like being flipped over for a photo-shoot:)
