Sapintus prob. fulvipes
The ones in alcohol are not helpful, but I will say Sapintus, and if they are truly 3 mm and from Iowa and are this solid brownish color then they must be S. fulvipes.

this has
been up for some time. Unfortunately all the angles of the photos do not allow me to even be sure it is an Anthicus (it looks more Sapinta-ish), and this color pattern for an A. ephipp*ium would be unusual, but possible.

I have borrowed the specimen.
What angle of photograph might possibly help with the ID?
Thanks.

If you can guide me
as to the angle of photograph that might help you identify this, I'll be back at Iowa State (where the specimen is) later this month. I could borrow it again and take more photographs. (I use white glue so it might even be taken off the point.)
