Osmoderma emericola - Osmoderma eremicola

Osmoderma emericola - Osmoderma eremicola
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 23, 2006
Birdseye view of variously segregated pupae and adults, including two pupal shells and 15 fly puparia that must belong to the parasitic tachinid flies that obviously had feasted on some of the beetles that didn't make it.

Hi Brad,
In this case I used a parts sorter lidded box from a crafts & hobby store. I lined the bottom of each cubicle with a folded square of paper towel and gave the cubicles a misting with a squirt bottle daily or as needed.

I made no provision for ventilation. These pupae afterall had been pried out of their buried and sealed pupal shells where they could hardly have enjoyed deep breaths of air.

Wonderful series....
This is great! What kind of container do you use for the pupae? How do you cover it to keep them from drying out?
