Wasp - Mischocyttarus flavitarsis

Wasp - Mischocyttarus flavitarsis
Dove Creek, Dolores County, Colorado, USA
April 3, 2006
Size: about 15 mm
This wasp visited our picnic along the Dolores River, about 20 miles below the McPhee Dam near Dove Creek, CO. (Dolores County)

Moved
Moved from Mischocyttarus.

Mischocyttarus flavitarsis
This is Mischocyttarus flavitarsis. This color phase of flavitarsis used to be a separate subspecies, but was synonymized with the typical form of flavitarsis.

Edit
Made a minor change to correct a rather entertaining typo. I hope you don't mind.

Paper wasp.
Pretty sure this is a paper wasp in the genus Mischocyttarus, possibly M. flavitarsis. The genus is mostly tropical, but that species ranges north all the way to British Columbia. At least two other species occur in the southern U.S. Very unique perspective in this image:-) Nice work.
