Mosquito larvae?

Mosquito larvae?
Picchetti Ranch OSP, Santa Clara County, California, USA
February 20, 2011
While scouting a night hike, I noticed this pool of water in a cavity in the base of a tree near a frog pond. (The frogs ought to be eating these.) The larvae were feverishly wriggling, like mosquito larvae, but I guess I've never looked at them this closely. There's what looks like a Collembola in the midst of them.

Sorry!
My web browser had a bit of a freakout there...

Yes, mosquito larvae.
There are even a few species called "treehole mosquitoes". Out by you the most common one would be Ochlerotatus sierrensis.

Looks like it to me!
Not an expert on skeeters, but I spent some time dipping for them this summer, and these sure look the part!
