unkn beetle? - Cypherotylus californicus

Size: ~1cm
1st of 2. Have looked at this for months and can't figure out what it is. Looks like some kind of beetle?? Can anyone ID? On a tree trunk at about 6500-7000ft. I will post a brightened image of the same specimen next - it looks like a beetle a little more in that one.

Teneral beetle
A teneral beetle and the pupal exuviae. Maybe Gibbifer? Not sure about that, though.

Brady - that makes sense and Gibbifer is fairly common in SE Arizona.
