Lonchoptera bifurcata

Lonchoptera bifurcata
Chibougamau, Nord-du-Québec County, Quebec, Canada
July 16, 2009
L. bifurcata (Fallén, 1810) -- 98% sure anyway, given the bristles on the fore tibiae and the pale post-ocellar bristles (though not exactly yellowish, hence the slight doubt). There's already several pictures of this species on Bugguide, but none shows the venation of a single wing; there's always both wings superposed. BG's first Lonchopteridae record for Québec, it is!

Female
The closed cell behind CuA1 makes this a female. The genus was revised (Klymko and Marshall 2008) and there are new species. Are you using recent literature for identification?

On this one I used the Manual
On this one I used the Manual of Nearctic Diptera. I was aware of the revision by Klymko and Marshall, but had no access to the article. Consistent with recent IDs on this guide made by Klymko himself however (here for instance: http://bugguide.net/node/view/107624/bgpage), the criteria to determine it is L. bifurcata are indeed the yellow postocellar bristles and 2 or more bristles on the fore tibiae.

I've had a handful of Lonchopteridae in my samples, which all fitted this. Re-checking this one specimen might be pertinent however, and I'll try to take some time tomorrow to do so.
