Olive Euphoria - Euphoria herbacea - male - female

Olive Euphoria - Euphoria herbacea - Male Female
Snowhill Road north of Cabin Branch Creek, Treyburn area, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 24, 2004
Mating, apparently shortly after female emerged (?) from the bed of mosses. This is located in a damp area on the north side of a building--there were several of these beetles buzzing about. A good example, I think, of the very low angle one can obtain with a compact digital camera--these photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 4500, turned to a flat configuration and placed right on the ground. (Unfortunately Nikon does not make this camera any longer--it is perfect for this sort of thing.) Male later went off on his own, antennae deployed, to seek more females--see linked image.
