Yes, a shallow clypeal "excision". I'm about 99% sure it is indeed F. aserva, based on appearance and location.
And hah! Had to make a page for this species.

I was hoping that was what these were. I wasn't focusing on ants on this trip, and only took a few pics. I wish I had had a macro-capable lens at the time.
