Dermacentor variabilis

Based on the first coxal spurs, shape of capitulum, and Y-shaped anal groove posterior to the anus, this is a D. variabilis rather than Ixodes scapularis.

Ixodes scapularis

this tick used to be called the black legged tick, but then i think after Lyme disease it was studied more and that it reproduced and lived on deer. they found that all the ticks in the genus Ixodes carry the virus and they split the old name, Ixodes dammini, to Ixodes scapularis, I. pacificus and a bunch others.

sorry i meant bacterium. Borrelia burgdorferi is a spirochete bacteria that is the causative agent of Lyme disease
