Pretty little melyrid - Anthocomus bipunctatus

Pretty little melyrid - Anthocomus bipunctatus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 21, 2006
Size: About 4 mm maybe
When I first saw this beetle on the vinyl siding I thought it was some sort of small fly because of its delicate legs. On closer examination it proved to be a pretty little softwinged flower beetle that several others have posted here. This beetle was a very good flyer and flew out of my light arena during the photo shoot for parts unknown, For days I looked for it at the windows, where I assumed it would fly in hopes of an exit. No luck :-( Consequently I have no shots of it with my metric ruler in view and can only guess at its size.

Melyridae: Anthocomus bipunctatus
I believe that this was introduced from Europe. Very distinctive melyrid.

Many thanks, Don.
We seem to have quite a few of this species that could be moved to the same page.
