Head of Scolopendra heros. N
Head of Scolopendra heros. Note the 4 ocelli (simple eyes) on the side of the cephalic plate (4 more on other side), these being a diagnostic feature of the family Scolopendridae. This individual apparently is in the process of cleaning his antenna, pulling it through the palp of one of the maxillae (a mouthpart), the yellow structure above the headily sclerotized prehensor.

Seth,
These photos are absolutely awesome!
