Exoprosopa fascipennis

Exoprosopa fascipennis
St. Lucie County, Florida, USA
April 29, 2006

ID: E. doris or E. sp undescr., -not E. fascipennis
I think this is the Florida form of E. doris, which looks very different from the same species in the arid West. It might also be an undescribed Florida endemic which I don't think I could separate at this angle. But let me check my flies. In Florida, as throughout most of its range (except the West), fascipennis has the wing color advance closer to the wing tip (see copious postings on fascipennis page).

Please sort to E. doris.

Exoprosopa
This fly appears to be a match to the Exoprosopa genus in the bee fly family...I was unable to find an exact match in the guide but the 2nd picture under the "Exoprosopa sp." on this link http://www.giffbeaton.com/Bee%20Flies.htm appears to be a close match. Unfortunately, they don't have it narrowed down to a specific species.

Thanks
for the ID's, Jason.
