Grasshopper Nymph - Trimerotropis pallidipennis

Grasshopper Nymph - Trimerotropis pallidipennis
San Pedro River Valley, N of Redington, Pima County, Arizona, USA
March 27, 2011
Size: approx 1 cm
I suspect this is a Speckle-winged Rangeland Grasshopper (Arphia conspersa) Nymph, but not sure. Found on a flowering Needle-spine Pineapple Cactus (Echinomastus erectocentrus); one of the few flowering plants at the time; dry wash, elevation 2800 feet.

He is actually a Trimerotropis pallidipennis
Seems to have found a very good source of nutrition. I've never been lucky enough to see that particular cactus species in flower in habitat (just in a pot). I'd love to see a hillside of them in flower some day. I didn't realize they were quite that early - though - the wild Echinomastus intertextus in my yard are flowering now (not so pretty, but the Grasshoppers like them too).

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

Thanks!
Thank you David for all of your help. It really makes looking for and photographing all of these wonderful insects so much more interesting.
