I'm pretty sure this is
Acanthocephala declivis. The way the flat part of the shin goes in at a right angle above the foot is one of the identifying characteristics. There's a key here to the four species found in FL, which would also apply to your state (except, I think, for one species). I've found it a few times, and it's definitely a big one, too. Hannah, I was thinking along the lines of Acanthocephala too, but wasn't sure about the exact name of the species. So thanks bunches, and I appreciate the links. Those came in handy. BTW (by the way), nice pics you have there... also of Acanthocephala. :)

Don't know the latin name, but in Texas we call this a stink bug. They smell awful if you smash one.
