Greater Bee Fly - Bombylius major

Greater Bee Fly - Bombylius major
Cumberland, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
April 10, 2011
Is this the Greater Bee Fly? If so, I would like to enter into the data base in Bug Guide since there is no entry for this species from RI. Photo was taken in the woods where it had landed on the ground.

Greater Bee Fly
Thanks. I have seen this before, but never knew what it was until I found it on Bug Guide. I have always seen it on the ground but have never seen it nectaring on flowers.

Male
This one is a male. Females spend a lot of time flying low looking for Andrena nests. I guess that males spend a lot of time flying low looking for females.

Moved from ID Request.

Yes. The wing pattern is distinctive.
