Scale Insects
Montrose, Laurens County, Georgia, USA

Size: 1-2 mm
Found on branch end of unknown (suspect some kind of maple) tree. These were tended by Crematogaster ants not much larger than the scales. I have seen the remains of these a number of times on oak branches but this is the first time I found a living colony.
