Size: 8 - 9 mm
Found on a rainy day beneath loose bark on a standing dead deciduous tree near a small pond.

Update:
Don Chandler says this is Xylophagus reflectens, fairly common in NH.

Xylomyidae: Xylomya sp.
I think so, if the abdomen is orangish then definitely so.

Two in one month? Impressive. There are five specimens in our large insect museum in AR.

 
Actually three :-), assuming this is one
The pupa I found in the container with the other specimen, as I expected, produced another of the same species. and both, plus opened puparium, are now in alcohol for shipment to Don Chandler at UNH. I'll post pix when I get time.
