Chrysalis Knit Into Lupine Leaflets

Chrysalis Knit Into Lupine Leaflets
Worcester County, Maryland, USA
June 5, 2010
Size: about 1cm long
Found this little chrysalis inside several lupine leaflets that were knit together. Also, there is feeding damage on the leaflets. The sundial lupine (Lupinus perennis) is rare in our state, so I am trying to understand the insects that interact with it. Can you tell anything from a chrysalis like this?

Keep it
I hope that you still have this pupa and that the adult emerges soon. Then it will be a lot easier to ID. Try to keep it in conditions similar to outdoor conditions so you don't disrupt its cycle.
Also, if you know the plant sometimes it helps to consult the Natural History Museum site Hosts. It seems that Everes comyntas and a few others use this plant. Good luck.

Perhaps I should have...
I'm always afraid to kill them in captivity. But I got two aquariums with the mesh lids, and if I understand correctly at least the pupae don't really require anything other than to be kept in natural temperature, which I could have done, since it was May, simply by having the aquarium in my office.
