Aquatic Larva - Ameletus tertius

Ameletidae: Ameletus tertius

Very nice. What once was thought to be a very rare species is often common when you go collecting this time of year. The color pattern is quite distinctive. I don't think this species has been recorded from Vermont, though it is quite common here in White Mountain National Forest. This one is just a baby, fully grown the body will be a cm or so.

Distinctive pattern

I'm having fun "playing" in the water finding quite a few different mayfly larvae and aquatic beetles and bugs. Don, thanks for identifying all of them.

Mayfly

It looks a little like olignuridea (or Isonichicidae) (i know i butchered the spellings). But there are some differences...i'm not sure if thats due to location or if its infact a different family
