This could well be Formica exsectoides, the Alleghany Mound Ant.

 
Could be Richard, But I'm mor
Could be Richard, But I'm more inclined to call it Formica integra, based on the rather duller appearance, but brighter red and less concave head margin than those of F. exscectoides.
