Water penny exuviae - Psephenus herricki

Water penny exuviae - Psephenus herricki
Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, USA
March 24, 2011
Found stuck to a tree right next to the Westfield River--I think it must have gotten lodged there during the spring flooding.
Looks the same as this one to my eye. Is there just one species in Massachusetts?

Are you sure it was just the exuvium and not a deceased individual that got washed up there?

I poked at it when I was done photographing...
and it was just an empty carapace (if that's the proper term) with nothing under it.
