Australian Cockroach - Periplaneta australasiae

Australian Cockroach - Periplaneta australasiae
Alachua County, Florida, USA
May 5, 2006
Size: 35mm
These things never fail to give me the creeps - I think it's the combination of scuttling motion and spiny legs. Captured in my house (ugh), chilled for pictures and released outdoors.

You
must be a good person ;). I would have smashed it with a phone book!
My first week in Florida one of those nasty things flew into me and met it's end.
Surinam roaches, FL woods roaches, etc., don't bother me, but like you, I get creeped out by American and Australian roaches, especially when they sneak inside. Maybe it's because their favorite place is sewer pipes. Nasty.

I third
the creepy! Before I moved here, I swore if one ever flew on me, I was moving back up north, But, I guess they don't bother me as much as the cold :)
