Dasytinae, right? - Trichochrous fieldii - Male Female
Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station, Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
March 30, 2010
Photographed while mating on Camissoniopsis bistorta.

I believe these are melyrids in the Subfamily Dasytinae. I would appreciate confirmation of my tentative ID so that these beetles can be added to the invertebrate list currently being compiled for the Field Station. Thank you!!

Dasytinae, right?
This is Trichochrous fieldii Blaisdell. It is relatively common in southern California chaparral/coastal sage scrub communities. It is usually one of the earliest spring species to emerge. Adults can be found in the Riverside area in late February on flowers of Amsinkia.

And it's a new one for the Guide!
Adriean, many thanks for both the species ID and the incredibly helpful accompanying information. I'm certain the folks at the biological field station where it was photographed will be very pleased to add this to their arthropod list.

THANK YOU, =v=. (efficient and helpful, as always!)

Dasytinae is correct

Yo!
Hey stranger...haven't seen you around these parts for awhile :^)

Scott!
So nice to know I was missed. :-) I have snuck in here and there in the last few months, but yes, I've been a bit absent of late. Too much time enjoying myself outside and not enough time sitting down at the computer. :-) But I've been missing everyone here and I'm hoping to find a better balance where I can make more time for posting and all my BG friends.

Great To See...
you back again! I don't post as much as I used to as I have been busy with other things as well. I still out shooting images of bugs though and the warm weather is back so more bugs to find!
