ID for a fly on Horkelia? - Peleteria

ID for a fly on Horkelia? - Peleteria
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 30, 2011
This Tachinid fly was spotted on Wedge-Leaf Honeydew, Horkelia cuneata ssp. puberula, at the Claremont Colleges' Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station.

H. cuneata ssp. puberula is seriously endangered and in decline in California, but the factors contributing to its decline and are not known. We are collaborating with a University of California, Riverside, graduate student who is helping to develop a conservation plan for this plant species.

Nothing is known about the pollination biology of H. cuneata ssp. puberula, so identifying key pollinators could be important in developing an effective conservation plan. On April 30 Hartmut Wisch and I spent some time observing, photographing, and collecting insects visiting the H. cuneata, and these flies were among the frequent visitors.

Here are two other individuals photographed at the same time, and another a day later:

Thanks!
Thanks for the ID! They seem to be attracted to the Horkelia; several of them have been on the flowers every time I've looked.

these look a lot like Peleteria
a very common tachinid
e.g.

Thanks!
I've seen Pelteria before at the Field Station (see here), and these looked very similar to me, but I didn't feel knowledgeable enough about fly identification to hazard that as a guess.

your prudence is fully justified
this is a hugely speciose family, so we'd rather wait for the experts
