This creature alighted on my front storm door and stayed just long enough for me to capture two images.

Scientific name
The scientific name is Bittacomorpha clavipes of the family Ptychopteridae.

I agree with Troy...
Definitely a phantom crane fly. These things used to freak me out when I was a kid, perhaps because I thought they were flying spiders. Great photo, by the way.
