Thanks
What characteristics are leading you toward Condylostylus vs Sciapodinae?

You are cool!
Last time I checked, Condylostylus is still been treated as one of the genera within the subfamily Sciapodinae - Chen

Yes,
based on the vertex of head deeply excavated as seen from the iamge. - Chen

Other opions
Your comment leads me to believe there are other options that would not have that characteristic but would look similar. What would they be?

Dolichopodidae
splits into many subfamilies such as Sciapodinae, Dolichopodinae, Hydrophorinae, Plagioneurinae, Medeterinae, etc…. And Sciapodinae is the group that all of its members have this distinct excavated on vetex between the two big eyes. This character is clearly visible in one of your images. Flies of all the other subfamily don’t have this character, the eyes are either touch each other or with level connection. Since flies of the subfamily Sciapodinae are the showiest green and blue ones and they tend to show up in most of the shots in the BugGuide. There are only a few of non-Sciapodinae flies in the Guide but it is very difficulty to see the character between two eyes. I hope this answers your question. - Chen

You got it . . .
. . . right on the button. It answers my question and also focuses my images so that ID's for the family will be easier. Thanks!
