Thick-headed Fly (Conopidae)? - Physocephala
Central, Florida, USA

About 1 cm. Tentatively identified as Family Conopidae, perhaps in the genus Physoconops. Can anyone confirm?

Conopidae
You are correct on the family, nice job! Could be Physoconops or Physocephala. They are virtually identical in casual observation.
