Large Black-Blue Wasp - Liris

Large Black-Blue Wasp - Liris
Granite Creek, ~ 5 miles north of Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA
May 2, 2011
Size: 3 cm+
This wasp was very active in the leaf litter of a lush riparian woodland. It seemed to be pumping its abdomen repeatedly in many different locations. Flushed pretty easy at my approach. It was hard to get a sharp image due to active movement. It had a beautiful iridescent dark blue that would flash in the right light.
