I now believe this to be an Ashy Clubtail, Gomphus lividus.

 
Ashy certainly is a good poss
Ashy certainly is a good possibility. I don't see any major spins on the tail appendages (although its a bit blurry and not a perfect angle) and the colours would be a good match too.
