Thanks Dr. Westcott,
I appreciate the ID.

nice to see this one brought home!

Identification
Well, first I had to have the actual chitin in front of me, which the photographer kindly provided. My initial guess from the photo was incorrect. There is a lesson here!

huge lesson
actual chitin makes a world of difference -- esp. in making the Guide a really sound resource

Identification
First, this is not Acmaeodera cazieri. It could be an unusual variant of the highly variable A. neglecta, though I have not seen another like this specimen. Did you collect it? If so, I might be able to make an ID if you send it to me. However, what is needed is a series from this locality. Perhaps it is not too late to find them. Please give it a try.

Thanks Dr. Westcott,
I appreciate your expertize about this beetle, I collected it from the surface of a stock tank. Sagebrush and Yucca are the "woodish" plants around.

i may well be mistaken...
...but, based on my past [Old World] experience, those may not particularly care about above-ground woodiness -- many develop in roots, which in drier areas tend to be meaty enough in many herbaceous plants, too --to make comfortable living for the acmaeoderoids

awesome
hope you gentlemen reach an agreement --and keep nosotros innocent bystanders in the loop...
