Carpenter or Bumble Bee ? - Diadasia - male

Carpenter or Bumble Bee ? - Diadasia - Male
West Clear Creek, Conconino National Forest, Mogollon Rim, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA
May 11, 2011
Size: ~ 2cm +
Not sure if this a bumble or carpenter bee? Seems to have a hairy abdomen... which makes me think Bumble... but the blue-gray eyes make me think Xylocopa... or could it be a Digger Bee? This one was in Echinocereus ... habitat is desert upland mixed with chaparral and pine-oak woodland on the terraces above a riparian woodland.

I found large carpenter bees with eyes exactly like that, but most of their hair was darker.
