a more detailed look at the beetle.

ten-lined June beetle
Male ten-lined June beetle, Polyphylla decimlineata, or a related species. It is a complicated genus. Did he "huff" at you?:-) They can blow air out their spiracles and make an endearing huffing sound.

June Beetle
Thanks, Eric, is this species native to my area?

Yes, native
Good question, glad you are being vigilant:-) Hey, have you shot images of other insects in your area? I am doing a new field guide for North America, and we are short of images for that region. Please e-mail me: bugeric@webtv.net

Oops, female
Correction, the antennae are not obvious enough for a male.
