Chlaenius erythropus - male

Chlaenius erythropus - Male
Tuckahoe State Park, 38.9773, -75.9360, Caroline County, Maryland, USA
June 30, 2005
Size: 22 mm
Collected at mercury-vapor and ultra-violet lights.

Not sure what other Chlaenius species this could be. Much larger than any other thing I've ever seen in the genus. Head and pronotum have a nice metallic blue sheen that I can't seem to recreate in the photo.

Note: You must obtain a permit to collect insects in Maryland State Parks and State Forests.

Chlaenius erythropus
Agreed. The only other large species (>20 mm)is C. fuscicornis, which has the pronotum less sinuate and darker tarsi/antenomere 3. However, I'm unsure of its range.

New state record added to Forum/Registry
here. Thank you all.

Just noticed-
This species was reported from Maryland back in 2011, in(1).

Yes, reference missed by the 2012 catalogue
and absent from the PWM library until now. Thank you eagle eyes, an upgrade from just "Thrasher".
