Mosquito - Ochlerotatus abserratus - female

Mosquito - Ochlerotatus abserratus - Female
Stow, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 11, 2006
Size: 5.5mm

Tom,
do you have any dorsal shots of this girl? its either a species of Ochleratatus or an Aedes vexans. if you give me dorsal shot ill tell you for sure

She flew away
as soon as I took this one shot.

scared her away?!
or she didnt like your blood ;). well like Sean said the basal stripes arent there so that eliminates the possibility of Aedes vexans. I would just move it to the Ochleratatus page for now

Moved to genus page
She was camera shy.

oh
6.5 mm is a little too big. i would say from 4.5mm-5.5mm (max)

5.5mm
I rechecked my measurement, and it was 5.5mm.

...
Aedes vexans should have pale bands on the basal parts of hind tarsomeres....
