Ambush Bugs - Phymata pennsylvanica - male - female

Ambush Bugs - Phymata pennsylvanica - Male Female
Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
July 23, 2004
I've seen this species before on goldenrod. But the plants have yet to bloom, so I found this mating pair on a nearby bush. Note the variation in color between the sexes. I'm guessing that the smaller male is on top.

not mating
