Dandylion Globular Springtail

Dandylion Globular Springtail
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 6, 2006
Size: 0.55 mm
I spent some time on my hands and knees in the back yard on a sunny afternoon after work, tapping dandylion blossoms into my palm to see what tiny critters were hiding in them. One of the rudely evicted was this yellow globular springtail.

I want to know if this species is a dandylion specialist or whether some or all species are able to change color chameleon-like to blend with their surroundings.

Millimeter marks can be seen through bottom of clear, plastic deli container.

I observed these running about on the leaves of peonies, presumably feeding from the extrafloral nectaries.

Not a specialist then :-)
I've since found, photographed and posted another yellow globular that was nowhere near a dandylion.
