Attracted to Bait - Stenelytrana emarginata - female

Attracted to Bait - Stenelytrana emarginata - Female
Lakeland, Polk County, Florida, USA
May 11, 2006
Size: 40 mm
This handsome beetle was attracted to a bait mixture of apples, bananas, sugar, and water. I had never before seen one until it flew to the trap. I believe this is a female since it has a long slender abdoemn with a ovipositor. This was collected in an oak hammock.

Hm-m-m
Coincidentally, 'I' am also attracted to bait like that:-) Yummy!

Man!
I'm green with envy :-)

I'd love to have a visitor like that.

btw, could you give us a size estimate?

Size
Jim, sorry my first transmission failed and I resubmitted. I will edit and add the size. Yes, I was thrilled to see him in my net. Funny thing, I was on the phone outside yesterday and had one fly right by me. I swatted it down to the ground, but couldn't grab it quickly enough for study. I had never seen any before, and now 2 in one week. Go figure.
