Dicrepidius
I check recent beetle and click beetle updates and for some reason I missed this one.

Yup, this is Dicrepidius, female. Will probably be D. palmatus. With examination of material for the description of D. brasilianus (Brazil, only), D. ramnicornis is, I believe, restricted to southern TX in the U.S. The third US species, D. corvinus, is blacker and southwestern. If this is D, palmatus, it will be my first female specimen!

But on the bright side
He may end up with one of the largest Elaterid collection's in
the states,I have Faith he will.
