Face Shots
Thanks for adding these images. Do you have any shots of the face? I think I can see the dark spots above the antennae mentioned in the description for males at LifeDesks.org here.

On a separate note, are the females, you added, educated guesses based on what you know to be around? I ask because the above reference gives two other species for which females cannot be separated.

Thanks for your reply...
Hi Steve, I looked backed through my images and this was the only photo of this specimen.

Yes, educated guess on the females... At the time of posting there was not any information available regarding other regional species of Eupeodes. Please feel free to move these if necessary.

I know very little about Diptera. I was just trying to ID one of my own images and stumbled upon yours. Probably fine to leave them as is and perhaps an expert will eventually comment. Based on what little I do know, it does seem like this one is correct. I try to add notes to my own submissions like "Tentative ID based on..." when I'm not sure.

How do you distinguish Eupeodes from Syrphus? I still can't do it and I understand that it isn't easy at all.

Hi Beatriz
These are usually identified from a lateral view - where the yellow bands do not meet the margin. Again, this is not always conclusive, but we have very low populations of Syrphus and a very hardy population of Eupeodes that we are studying for biological control.
