Mating Modest Sphinx - Pachysphinx modesta - male - female

Mating Modest Sphinx - Pachysphinx modesta - Male Female
our land - along Hwy 88 near Praag, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, USA
June 3, 2011
I raised this female from an egg (the mother came to my lights last summer). She overwintered in the refrigerator as a pupa, emerged yesterday, and I released her onto a small tree outside my door. She was still there this morning, and had attracted a mate. I've never seen the green stripes on the abdomen of a female before.

Here are links to life cycle photos I took while rearing them. (They're not connected, since they're photos of a number of different larva, although all from eggs from the same female.)
