Very cute and distinctive-looking Jumping Spider. Almost thought it was a Crab Spider at first glance.

Cute Jumper - Hentzia mitrata Cute Jumper - Hentzia mitrata

I photographed one of these...
...on Father's Day in Pine City, MN, while visiting my wife's parents. It was about 25MM from tip-to-tip, with the forelegs making up about half that. The body was about 6MM long.

Very Cool Spiders. He jumped off the deck railing onto my hand, then back onto the deck again. VERY fast, but very cool. The forelegs on this ssp are amazing.

Thanks
They sure are cool critters. I came across another last summer, but it didn't stick around for photos.

I think he's cute too.
Very handsome markings and distinctive forelegs. I like jumping spiders while most others creep me out :-)

What beautiful images of a Ju

Thanks! Jumping Spiders are awesome animals. The way they follow you with their big eyes makes them both fascinating subjects and a challenge to photograph--they keep hiding whenever you get close--and they're so mobile. Of the arachnids I've met, they seem to exude the most personality. I love the soft, Barn Owl colouring of this one.
